Today I am spending a day researching and going over the topics I had mentioned before and figuring out which is most suitable for the dissertation. I think they're all valid starting points but the problem is that I cannot cover them all.
Points of interest and how they link:

Outsider Art -> intuitive image making -> ugly/ intuitive aesthetics -> ugly as professionalism
Talking about the lack of content in illustration is still something that matters dearly to me and I feel like I'm going to end up bringing it up a lot in PPP / Studio Practice anyway. Of course, COP should link to these - so it's a question of this being my entire year or having the opportunity to look at a similar but different important theme to my practice.
The thing that unnerves me in all the questions is that they do not seem to have any factual basis. Everything is so incredibly subjective that I'm going to be tying myself in knots over it.
------------------------------------------------------
QUOTES + things I saw to have a good think about
- (I just read back over these from my proposal and I'm realising that they're (wow) interesting and good talking points I think)
- Henry Moore is said to have rejected Roman ideals and taken inspiration from naive / outsider art. Moore is an artist who interests me greatly (if largely on a superficial level, but really he never did much explaining of any depth to his work).
- ADORNO AESTHETIC THEORY: On the categories of the ugly, the beautiful and the technique:
- "Archaic art and then traditional art... abound in the portrayal of subjects considered ugly. In modern art the weight of this element increased to such a degree that a new quality emerged" p. 60
- MOBA: the Museum Of Bad Art ((very intersting!!!))
- HERMANN BROCH: KITSCH IS AESTHETIC'S GREATEST EVIL
------------------------------------------------------
?????Outsider Art vs Kitsch Art?????
sometimes ugly and feelin vs pretty no feelings
(I think this is a rabbit hole)
------------------------------------------------------
SOME PHRASES that I have made up and taken from today
- Intuitive Aesthetics
- Professionally Ugly
- The Compulsion of Recording (note: how and why we record things would be two different questions, they would overlap but I don't think both could be covered in one essay)
------------------------------------------------------
Once I decide on something I think it would be a good idea to select a couple of relevant artists to it to do some more in depth research on.
I think the amount of interest and happiness that the Museum of Bad Art brought for me I should maybe consider staying on the track of Outsider Art.
How does that link for me professionally? -> aesthetic, style, curation
How can I make a practical project about this? -> hmmmmmm
