Illustrators Name: Molly Fairhurst
Overarching Theme:
|
Outsider Art
|
Specific Subject:
|
The fetishisation of identity and perceived authenticity
|
Research Question
|
Does the perception of authenticity drive a fetishisation
of outsider artists from the larger art world and the public?
(To what extent does
aesthetic ‘style’ reflect the context, audience and / or function of contemporary
illustration / art and design?)
|
Product(s)
|
A time based collection of work based on a single theme (tigers)
made every day, exploring ideas of obsessiveness and intuitivity of image
making. The project will be documented on social media, exploring the idea of
anonymity and how identity can affect both artist and audience.
|
Proposed Outcomes
|
·
A time based collection of made work
·
A social media presence documenting the
processes
·
A proposed exhibition, with some accompanying
promotional material and consideration of how it would be marketed.

|
Media Processes
|
·
Painting, drawing, 3D media- all material used
for creating original collection of made work will be non-digital
·
Online formats of presenting the work on
social media
·
Mock ups, posters (lettering/ type) used for
promotion and proposal of exhibition
|
Question 1
|
If the project does not receive any attention on social
media does that really matter? Can it be taken into account as a marker of
how lack of identity can affect
perception and distribution of art work? I.e. I gave this artist a distinct
identity, would people be more interested?
|
Question 2
|
How do I propose an exhibition?
|
Question 3
|
In proposing an exhibition, how will playing the role of
both artist and promoter affect the project?
